About: In the shadow of 9/11, the late New York poet, playwright, songwriter and educator Sekou Sundiata spent three years traveling through the U.S. gathering perspectives from Americans to create what would be his last theater work, "the 51st (dream) state." He sought to understand how he and others felt about being American during a time of terrorism and war and what future we could imagine and make possible.
On 9/10/14, join us to watch extended excerpts from the 51st (dream) state followed by a discussion on confronting, imagining and inventing what it means to be “American” in the 21st century, (in the nation's capital).
the 51st (dream) state was produced by MAPP International Productions.
This evening is hosted by Art in Praxis, a social practice laboratory & consultancy using radical imagination, design thinking and creative placemaking principles to produce transformational experiences. We build the capacity of dynamic organizations, teams & collectives, and coach visionaries to get things done.
